A portrait, sort of
My dad either yells or mutters; there’s no in-between. He refuses to take his keys when he goes out. God forbid if no one’s home or awake — when he’s finally let into the house, he’ll make it out as your fault for failing to be his personal doorman. If my mom comes home after a long day at work, he waits maybe ten minutes before asking her to make tea, serve dinner, do this, do that. He wallows in self-pity and self-regret and poor self-esteem. He seeks out arguments where there are none to have…
He has finer points, to be sure, but when do one’s positive moments ever outshine the far more frequent negative ones?
*I’m not mad at him right now or anything. He started arguing about something ridiculously trivial a few minutes ago and I’m just really annoyed.
In anticipation of summer break—
I need to first finish writing two more papers and take four finals. And then, my summer will begin…
> I want to cut my to-read list on Goodreads in half.
> I want to learn to play the ukulele before Louise’s birthday.
> I will finally, finally get my driver’s license. Maybe.
> I will start and finish a new writing project.
> I will do some intense soul searching because I sure as hell need it.
tumblr already has a LoK fandom, but I ain’t going anywhere near that. Also, I suspect we’re all past the target age group, anyway. :T Shipping K/M though, but that was obvs from episode 2.

I like the rain.
I know some people are like, “OMFG why is it raining when it was like eighty degrees a week ago?” but we were long overdue for some rain. And April showers bring May flowers, after all.
I like the sound of raindrops as they hit my air conditioner. It’s like hearing them pelt a tin roof, except it’s not a tin roof because this is NYC, not a freaking village in the middle of who knows where.
I gave up my birthday for charity —
Hey guys…
For my birthday this month, I’m raising money for charity!
charity: water is a nonprofit organization that brings safe, clean drinking water to people in developing countries by building wells, filtration systems, etc. Currently, they have partners on the field in nineteen countries.
1 in 8 people don’t have access to clean water.
I am an intern at charity: water, and after watching the behind-the-scenes there, I can tell you that everyone there is really dedicated about addressing the water crisis.
100% of all public proceeds go towards funding these water projects!
Please take a look at my fundraising campaign page and consider donating a dollar or two — it’s for a good cause! Check it out, right here (and share the link, too? :D) — mycharitywater.org/rawnie20
pre-Monday blues
I’m overcome by a restlessness I can’t really identify. It’s not the most unpleasant feeling, but its timing leaves much to be desired.
The Doctor: Between you and me, in a hundred words, where do you think Van Gogh rates in the history of art?
The Curator: …to me, Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly, the most popular great painter of all time, the most beloved. His command of color the most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world…no one had ever done it before. Perhaps, no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world’s greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived.”
Season 5 Episode 10 “Vincent and The Doctor”
When anybody asks me why I watch Doctor Who, why i’m such a fan, why they should even give this show a try, I make them watch this episode. There are so many phenomenal episodes for a show that has been on for decades, but this one pulls every heart string in the body with Vincent Van Gogh. It’s exactly why I love Doctor Who.
I don’t watch Doctor Who and I don’t think I’ll ever pick up the series, but I watched this episode because this post piqued my curiosity. Honestly, this scene was absolutely beautiful.
I agree — really enjoyed this episode. Van Gogh never really caught a break during his lifetime. What must it be like, to be ridiculed or ignored for your hard work, never to know how important your contribution will become to the world? This scene was very well done.

I’m back, sort of.
It’s been weeks and weeks since I’ve been on tumblr. Nice to see that my usual people are still around. :) I’ve kinda moved on to Twitter now… 160 (?) char tweets are more gratifying than I’d expected. Follow meh.
What’s new?
I’ve been doing an internship at a nonprofit for a couple months now. It’s called charity: water — check it out!
I had two exams and a paper last week. Have one more exam on Thursday, then I can relax for spring break, thank goodness. Sometimes I feel like I’m walking on a wire. So tense.
Currently reading The Help and it’s quite interesting so far. I’m probably not going to watch the movie — I rarely watch movies based on books… there are a few exceptions, of course. Anyways, it brings up some of the ugly parts of U.S. history — but all history is a little ugly, right? I keep thinking about how far society has come since the 60’s…
I’m a little hungry. That is all.
No creative title today.
While in my finals-induced delirium yesterday, I thought up a wonderful rant about Columbus. Seeing as it’s practically Christmas, I suppose I’ll have to wait til next year. And I shall.
I created my LinkedIn profile today.
Happy almost Thursday.
This show is a lot of fun. And it’s been doing pretty well, too. Hope it sticks around for a while, ABC.
